CORAL GABLES, Fla. – No, it’s not a broken record.

The University of Miami men’s basketball team made program history AGAIN by earning a No. 3 ranking in the latest edition of the Associated Press Poll and No. 4 in the USA TODAY Coaches rankings.
 
A week ago, the Canes were ranked No. 8 in the AP Poll for the first time since March 1, 1960.  That ranking tied a school record while their No. 11 ranking in the USA TODAY poll fell one spot short of its highest ranking, which came on March 1, 1999.

UM received a record 17 first-place votes in the AP Poll. The last time UM received no. 1 votes was nearly 53 years ago when the Hurricanes tallied seven first place votes and was ranked 8th on March 1, 1960. UM also established a new program high with 5 first place votes in the Coaches Poll.

The Canes vaulted into the Top 5 thanks to impressive home wins over Boston College and North Carolina in the past week. Miami is 10-0 in the ACC and sits atop the conference standings. They are also the only team in the history of the ACC to beat conference foes Duke and North Carolina by 25 points or more in the same season.
 
According to research by The AP, Miami is the sixth school to ascend from unranked to the top five in four weeks or less since the AP Top 25 begin in 1989-90. Connecticut was the last school to make the leap, doing so in 2010-11. Syracuse (2009-10), Georgia Tech (2003-04), Arizona (1995-96) and Kansas (1989-90) have also gone from unranked to the top five in four weeks or less.
