T&F has Solid Start at VT Elite Meet
BLACKSBURG, Va. – Miami’s track and field program got off toa solid start at the Virginia Tech Elite Meet.
The Canesreceived strong contributions from all facets of the program, but the distancerunners shined in Blacksburg.
GregKaczka, who set the school record in the mile a week ago, finished fourthoverall in the men’s mile with a time of 4:10.98. While Kazcka posted anotherstrong time, Lindsi Arrington placed third overall in the women’s mile, postinga mark of 5:02.37.
The womenhad a strong showing on Day 1, with several posting solid results. Lea Johnsonplaced fifth overall in the women’s weight throw with a mark of 61′ 6.25″ tolead the Cane women in the field events.
ButMiami’s women also had success in the track events. Taneisha Cordell set apersonal record in her 400m heat with a mark of 56.30 seconds.
AlaineTate, who is training partners with Cordell, finished fifth overall in thewomen’s 800m with a time of 2:09.77. Jamika Glades advanced to the women’s 60mhurdles final, posting a time of 8.90 seconds in her preliminary heat. AlyssaMcClure placed fifth in the women’s 60m final with a time of 7.46 seconds.McClure improved off her preliminary time of 7.49 seconds.
The men’steam also had several athletes stand out.
ChristianCook and TeQuille Jackson placed third and fourth respectively in the 60mhurdles. Cook posted a mark of 8.05 seconds while Jackson finished in 8.06seconds.
PhillipDorsett placed seventh in the men’s 60m final with a time of 6.82 seconds.Dorsett qualified for the final by posting a mark of 6.83 in his preliminaryheat.
InnocentJacob placed seventh overall in the men’s long jump, covering a distance of 23’1.75″.
Day 2 ofthe Virginia Tech Elite Meet kicks off at 11 a.m. ET, with the women’s high jump.The first running event on Day 2 starts at 1 p.m., with the women’s distancemedley relay.
