MBB Back in Both National Polls
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami men’s basketball team has received votes in both the AP Top 25 and USA TODAY Coaches poll, which was released Monday, Dec. 3. The Canes received seven votes in the AP Poll and five in the USA Today Poll.
Miami joins five other Atlantic Coast Conference schools in the AP Poll and four in the USA TODAY Poll, including No. 2/2 Duke, No. 20/16 North Carolina, No. 25/24 NC State, RV/RV Virginia Tech and RV/– Maryland.
The Canes received votes in the AP and USA TODAY polls to start the season, and were No. 24 in the Blue Ribbon Yearbook preseason Top 25 poll. Miami then received nine votes in the Nov. 12 AP Top 25.
Miami was listed on both the AP and USA TODAY preseason polls for the first time since the 2008-09 season, when Miami was ranked 17 and 16, respectively. In 2005-06 Miami was receiving votes in both preseason polls, with 16 from the AP and six in the USA TODAY listing.
UM was picked fourth by the coaches and fifth by the media in the ACC preseason polls.
Miami defeated then-No. 13/14 Michigan State on Nov. 28 and will host two other Top 25 teams at the BankUnited Center in No. 2/2 Duke (Jan. 23) and No. 20/16 North Carolina (Feb. 9). The Canes will face the following ranked teams on the road: No. 20/16 North Carolina (Jan. 10), No. 25/24 NC State (Feb. 2), No. 2/2 Duke (March 2), and possibly No. 8/8 Arizona in the Diamond Head Classic in Honolulu (Dec. 23).
