The Game
Following UM’s upset of No. 13/14 Michigan State on Wednesday, Miami (4-1) hits the road to face UMass (3-2) on Saturday, Dec. 1 in Amherst, Mass. The Canes will play five of their next six games away from Coral Gables, with the Dec. 18 game at UCF, then three games in the Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic Dec. 22, 23 and 25. 
The SeriesMiami is 3-0 in the all-time series against UMass, dating back to the 2004-04 campaign. The Canes are 2-0 against the Minutemen at home and 1-0 on the road. The teams last faced off on Dec. 3, 2011, with the Hurricanes defeating the Minutemen 83-75 in Coral Gables.

Larrañaga Closing in on 500Head coach Jim Larrañaga is in his 29th season as a head coach, posting a 494-347 overall record. Entering the 2012-13 season, Coach L was tied for 20th on the list of winningest active Division-I head coaches. Currently 17 active D-I coaches have 500 wins. See complete list in bio on page seven of the notes. Larrañaga’s 100th win came when Bowling Green defeated Kent State in 1991. His other milestone wins came while at George Mason. He 200th victory was vs. Northeastern in 1997, 300th was vs. East Carolina in 2003 and win No. 400 came against William & Mary in 2008. 
Home Court AdvantageMiami has shot better than 45 percent from the field in its four home games, hitting 52.5 percent against Stetson,  59.0 percent vs. Jacksonville and 51.9 percent against Detroit and 47.7 percent vs. Michigan State. Miami was consistent vs. Detroit hitting 14-27  shots (51.9 %) in both the first and second halves. The Canes have shot better than 60 percent in two home second halves, with 63.6 percent vs. SU and 62.5 percent vs. JU. 
Three Canes Near Century MarkSenior Durand Scott played in his 100th career game on Nov. 24 against Detroit while classmates Julian Gamble (98) and Reggie Johnson (95) are all closing in on 100 games played at Miami. Scott leads the trio with 95 starts, followed by 65 from Johnson and 26 from Gamble. Miami’s record books are topped by 113 games started by Darius Rice (2000-04) and 130 games played by Brian Asbury (2005-09).

Johnson Averaging a Double-DoubleSenior Reggie Johnson is averaging 11.3 points and 10.3 rebounds this season. He has pulled down double-digit rebounds in three  of the four games he has played, with 11 vs. Stetson and MSU, 10 at FGCU along with nine vs. Detroit.
