Deem Announces Track & Field Schedule

CORAL GABLES, Fla.- Director of Track and Field/Cross Country Amy Deem and the University ofMiami track and field program announced the 2013 indoor and outdoor schedule onWednesday. The slate is highlighted by three outdoor home meets and the ACC andNCAA Championships for both seasons.

“We are excited about the 2013 indoor and outdoorschedule,” Deem said. “The schedule gives us challenging opportunities tocompete against some the best track and field teams in the country.”

The indoor slate features eight meets,starting with the Kentucky Invitational on Jan. 11. The teams will also travelto Auburn, New Mexico, Virginia Tech and Notre Dame to compete. The ACCChampionships will be held Feb. 21-23 at Virginia Tech, with the NCAAChampionships scheduled for Arkansas from March 8-9.

“We have added two new meets to our indoorschedule with trips to New Mexico and Birmingham,” Deem said. “Both willprovide us great competitions on two of the best indoor tracks in the country.”

The outdoor season will commence with theannual Hurricane Invitational at Cobb Stadium on March 15. Other home eventsinclude the Miami Invitational (March 23) and the Hurricane Alumni Invitational(April 13). The road slate involves a trip to the historic Penn Relays (April25-27) in Philadelphia among other meets. All-ACC status will be on the line atNC State from April 18-20.

“The addition of a third home meet gives usan opportunity to showcase not only our team, but bring even more excitingtrack and field meets to the university campus and South Florida community,”Deem said.

The NCAA East Preliminary will be contestedin Greensboro, N.C., with the NCAA Championships being staged at Oregon fromJune 5-8. The USA Championships in Des Moines, Iowa (June 20-23) conclude theseason.

The Canes return two All-Americans in 2013,senior jumper Samantha Williams and junior hurdler Thandi Stewart.
