No. 24 Volleyball Takes Down Virginia, 3-0

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – No. 24 Miami volleyball pickedup its third straight sweep with a 3-0 victory over Virginia on Sunday at theKnight Sports Complex. The Canes have now won their last 10 matches overAtlantic Coast Conference opponents, setting a new program-best ACC winningstreak.

UMwon by the scores of 25-20, 25-21 and 25-18 to improve to 20-3 overall and 12-1in the conference. It is the sixth 20-win season under head coach NicoleLantagne Welch.

“It’salways great to pick up a conference sweep, they are hard to get,” LantagneWelch said. “Every match is a challenge and we are pleased to be able to pickup two home wins this weekend.”

TheHurricanes continued their balanced play with three players recordingdouble-digit kills, led by 13 by sophomore outside hitter Savanah Leaf. Junioroutside hitter Taylor Hollins notched 11 kills on a .647 hitting percentage andsophomore middle blocker Emani Sims hit .600 with 10 slammers.

Juniorlibero Ryan Shaffer had a match-high 11 digs to anchor the back row, whilesenior setter Nrithya Sundararaman collected 31 assists.

Miamicontrolled the match throughout the afternoon, as there were only four leadchanges in the three sets. A total of 13 players saw action for the Canes inthe win.

Virginia(7-17, 1-12) was led by a match-high 15 kills from Natalie Bausback. UM alsodefeated UVA in three sets on Sept. 21 in Charlottesville, Va.

TheCanes will play their next four matches over two weekends in the state of NorthCarolina, starting with a contest at UNC on Nov. 2 at 7 p.m. It can be seenlive on ESPN3.
