WG Closes Fall Slate at Mercedes-Benz

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The University of Miami women’s golf team concludes its fall schedule at the 16th annual Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championship, which will be held Oct. 12-14 and hosted by the University of Tennessee.

The par-72, 6,447-yard course at Holston Hills Country Club will serve as the host site for the third time. Miami is joined in the 16-team field by Chattanooga, East Carolina, Eastern Kentucky, Florida State, Furman, Iowa State, James Madison, Memphis, Mississippi State, Northwestern, Penn State, Purdue, Texas A&M and UTSA.

Of the 16 participants, eleven have either advanced or had an individual advance to 2012 NCAA postseason. The Mercedes-Benz Collegiate field also features five teams in the top 30 in the latest Golfstat rankings.

Championship action begins at 9:00 a.m. ET Friday, Saturday and Sunday. For Friday’s first round, the Hurricanes will be paired with Mississippi State and Northwestern for a 10:40 a.m. ET tee time.

“We’re looking to cap off the fall season strong,” head coach Patti Rizzo said. “We’ve practiced well all season and we hope to leave (Tennessee) with some momentum heading into the spring.”

In Miami’s previous two tournaments, the Hurricanes finished in the top 10 and had at least two individuals place in the top 25. Both sophomores Rika Park and Leticia Ras-Anderica currently lead the team with a 74.44 scoring average.

With the conclusion of its fall schedule, Miami will open its spring slate Feb. 4-5, 2013, at home with the Hurricane Invitational in Deering Bay Yacht & Country Club in Coral Gables, Fla.
