Stracar, Laurente to Meet in Qualifying Final
AMELIA ISLAND, Fla. – After winning Sunday in their qualifying openers, Miami’s Nicolle Stracar and Kelsey Laurente each won in straight sets over their second round opponents on Monday and will face one another in the qualifying final Tuesday morning at the Omni Amelia Island Plantation.
Stracar, a junior transfer from Wisconsin, downed her fellow American Ryann Foster – ranked 1099th in the world – in straight sets, 6-4, 7-5.
“Nicky did a great job in implementing the adjustments that we talked about last night,” assistant coach Alex Santos said. “I feel that her confidence is growing and that she is much more comfortable on the court.”
Although she needed a second set tiebreak, Laurente continued to impress in her second tournament of the fall, upending Brittany Lashway, 6-3, 7-6 (4).
Santos said, “Kelsey played feisty Miami tennis and she continues to prove that she is a great competitor.
“Tomorrow we hope to move another step forward in our fall preparation.”
