Three Canes Place Among Top 10 at Fab-Four
CARY, N.C. –In the final day of action at theDuke Fab-Four Invitational, three Miami women’s tennis players finished amongthe Top 10 in their respective brackets.
“I believe weaccomplished our goals in this tournament,” assistant coach Alex Santos said. “Wecame here to be tested against some of the top competition in college tennis.”
In her firstcollegiate tennis tournament, freshman Kelsey Laurente placed sixth in the Bluebracket. In her lone match of the day, she fell 6-4, 6-0 to 80th-rankedMelissa Kopinski of Illinois.
Sophomore LinaLineikite joined Laurente with a sixth place finish of her own, as she fell toYale’s Blair Seiderman, 6-1, 6-4.
In the Blackbracket, junior Melissa Bolivar fell to Duke’s 108th-ranked AnnieMullholland, 6-2, 6-2., finishing in eight place.
“We’vedetected our strengths and weaknesses and we’re looking forward to get back onthe court” Santos said.
Miami returnsto the court on Saturday, Sept. 22 at the Amelia Island Women’s TennisChampionship.
“This is avery talented group of women,” concluded Santons. If we stick with our philosophies,we could have a special season.”
