CORAL GABLES, FL—The University of Miami Hurricanes went through theirfinal workout in preparation for Saturday’s contest against the 8th rankedFlorida State Seminoles at the Orange Bowl. Practicing in shellsat Greentree Practice Field, the Canes used the session to fine tune theirgame plan.
“Today was a good practice for us,” commented coach Butch Davis.“You could feel the intensity. These guys are looking forward tothis game. They remember last year’s final and are anxious to dosomething about it.”
Davis said that he did not anticipate any changes to the Hurricanes’starting lineup. Cornerbacks Markese Fitzgerald and Leonard Myersare expected to return to the starting lineup. Both players playedin last week’s win at Rutgers but did not start due to injury.
The ability to run the ball will be paramount for UM. Innine of the last ten years, the team that rushed for the most yards won,with the lone exception being Miami’s 19-16, Orange Bowl triumph in 1992in which FSU outrushed the Canes 67-65.
The University of Miami Hurricane Club will be hosting a Coach’sBreakfast with offensive line coach Art Kehoe and lineman Richard Merciertomorrow morning at 7:30 at the Faculty Club, 1550 Brescia on the UM campus;and a Coach’s Luncheon with Kehoe and linebacker Dan Morgan at Port EvergladesTerminal 22 at noon. Tickets for both events will be available atthe door.
