CORAL GABLES, Fla. – University of Miami athletic director PaulDee has announced the Hurricanes 1999 football schedule.

“This is a very competitive schedule that features some of the nation’stop teams,” said Dee. “I think our fans will find the schedule attractiveas we host games in the Orange Bowl that will have a significant impacton the college football landscape in 1999.”

The schedule features home dates against Penn State, Syracuse, WestVirginia, Florida A&M, Rutgers and Temple. The ‘Canes take tothe road to face Ohio State, Florida State, Virginia Tech, Boston College,Pittsburgh and East Carolina.

Miami opens the season against Ohio State in the Kick-Off Classic onAugust 29th at the Meadowlands in New Jersey. The game marks UM’ssecond appearance in the Kick-Off Classic as the Hurricanes upset pre-seasonNo. 1 Auburn, 20-18, to start the 1984 season.

The Hurricanes home opener is September 4th vs. Florida A&M, andfollowing an open-week, UM then plays host to Penn State on the 18th.The regular-season finale, November 27th at the Orange Bowl, onceagain pits the Hurricanes against BIG EAST Conference foe Syracuse.

Three Miami games have already been selected for television broadcastand start times have been determined. Those games are: OhioState (ABC, 2:30); Penn State (CBS, 3:30) and Syracuse (CBS, 3:30).Additional television selections will be announced as they are made.

UM’s ’99 schedule is highlighted by six bowl teams from last seasonand five opponents ranked in the Top 25 in both the Associated Press andCNN/USA Today final 1998 polls.
