CORAL GABLES, Fla. — The 24th-ranked University of Miami Hurricanesreturned to practice today for the first time since their December 5thupset of UCLA. The Hurricanes worked out at Greentree Practice Fieldfor 90 minutes in shells as they begin preparation for their December 29thgame with N.C. State in the Micron PC Bowl.

Following a week of final exams, the Canes were anxious to havethe semester behind them and return to playing football.

“We were a little sluggish today,” said coach Butch Davis, “butthat is to be expected as the players have been focused on final examsand finishing term papers for the last week. In fact we had 40 playersthat had finals today. I could tell by the enthusiasm that the playerswere happy to have finals behind them and to get back out on the field.”

The Hurricanes used today’s session as an introduction to N.C.State, working against themselves to become familiar with the Wolfpackoffensive and defensive schemes.

Davis announced that right cornerback Leonard Myers had surgeryon Monday to repair cartilage in his left knee. Myers underwent arthroscopicsurgery to correct a meniscus tear following the Florida State game.His status for the Bowl game will be determined when the team reconveneson the 23rd, following a two-day break.
