CORAL GABLES, FL — University of Miami’s Dan Morgan and Nate Brookswere named BIG EAST Players of the Week following the Hurricanes’ 66-17season-opening win against East Tennessee State.
Morgan led a swarming Miami defense with a game-high 19 tacklesin earning Defensive Player of the Week honors. The sophomore linebackeralso added a tackle for loss and 1.5 sacks in garnering his first playerof the week award. The Coral Springs, FL native pushed his consecutivegames with double-digit tackles to four and becomes the first Hurricanedefender since Tremain Mack (September 12, 1996) to be named BIG EAST Playerof the Week.
Brooks shares special teams honors with Virginia Tech’s JimmyKibble. In the season-opener, Brooks partially blocked a first quarterETSU punt and returned a second quarter punt block 12 yards for a touchdown.This marks the second consecutive year a Hurricane was named special teamsplayer of the week following the season-opener. Duane Starks earnedthe honor last year following Miami’s win at Baylor.
The Hurricanes (1-0) travel to Cincinnati to face the Bearcats(0-1) this Saturday. Kick off is at 3:30 EDT and the game will betelevised by Fox Sports Net.
