CORAL GABLES, FL–The University of Miami Hurricanes conducted a two-hour, rain-soaked practice at the Greentree Practice Field on the UM campusin preparation for their BIG EAST opener against the 21st ranked VirginiaTech Hokies. Saturday’s game will be nationally televised on ESPN,with an 8:00 p.m. kickoff at the Orange Bowl.

“I was pleased with the players focus in today’s practice,” said coachButch Davis. “The rain can be a really big distraction but todayit got our players revved up. We are going to have to be ready comeSaturday. Virginia Tech is starting a new backfield as far as thefullback and tailback positions are concerned. This season’s squadhas more overall speed, particularly the running backs. Lamont Peguesgives them a different dimension at running back and Al Clark’s mobilityis very lethal.”

After practice, Davis announced the return of sophomore defensive endQuincy Hipps who did not dress for Saturday’s 38-12 victory at Cincinnatilast weekend due to an accelerated heart rate.

“Quincy did return to practice today and will definitely see some actionon Saturday,” said Davis. “We have a rule that says if you do notpractice on Tuesday, you will not start. Michael Boireau will startbut he and Quincy will split playing time.”
