CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The Universityof Miami football team continuedspring practice with a two hour workout in full pads Wednesday afternoonatthe Greentree Practice Facility on the UM campus.

Following pre-practice warm-ups,the team split into offensive anddefensive units to work on various drills for the first hour finishingupwith an 11-on-11 scrimmage. The middle of practice consistedof full speedspecial teams punt and kicking drills before the Hurricanes’ closedoutpractice with the offense and defense scrimmaging in short yardagesituations.

The battle for the startingjob at kicker this spring has beenstrong. Following practice head coach Butch Davis commented on thecompetition between senior Andy Crosland and sophomore Todd Sievers.

“After the first six practicesAndy’s consistency level and speedhave been slightly better although Todd had one of his better daystoday,”said Davis. “Both have good mechanics and I am confident in both oftheirabilities. But Andy has really responded to the competition and thatis whatyou want.”

Coach Davis later commentedon the play of sophomore defensive backDelvin Brown who was recently converted from safety to cornerback.

“Delvin Brown has playedvery well. He is a very disciplined playerwho does a lot on his own. He watches a lot film and is very conscientious.You can tell he wants to be starter on our defense”

Miami continues with a closedspring practice on Thursday, April 1at 3 p.m. at the Greentree Practice Facility. The Hurricaneswill then takeApril 2-5 off.
