CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The 24th-rankedUniversity of Miami Hurricanes
held a rain-shortened 90-minute practice today at Greentree Practice
Field. The Canes returned to practice for the first time following
Saturday’s, 35-17, BIG EAST Conference win over Boston College.UM has
an open-date this weekend before traveling to Temple for a 4:00 gameon
November 14th.
UM broke today’s sessionin half, using the first portion to
work on team drills and the second to focus on Temple.
“Considering the weather,we had a pretty good practice today,”
said coach Butch Davis. “With an open-date, it gives us an opportunity
to get some guys healthy. We will practice Thursday and Fridaythis
week, before beginning our game week routine on Sunday. Hopefullyour
banged-up players will be rested and healthy.”
Davis announced that startingstrong-side linebacker Dan Morgan
had surgery this morning to repair a broken left thumb. Morganhad a
screw inserted and is not expected to miss any playing time.Davis is
hopeful that the sophomore linebacker will return to practice tomorrow
and be back to full speed next week.
Running back James Jacksonworked out on a limited basis.
Jackson strained his left hamstring during a 79-yard run in the Boston
College game that forced the sophomore to the sidelines for the
remainder of the contest. He will continue to receive treatmentand is
expected to play against Temple.
Tomorrow’s taping of theButch Davis Show takes place at the
All-Star Café on Ocean Drive, South Beach. The programwill be
broadcast at 11:30 a.m. on WPLG (Channel 10) and SportsChannel Florida
on Saturday, October 24. Tapings are open to the public and fansare
encouraged to arrive early.
Hurricane Hotline, a two-hour,weekly call-in show featuring
Davis and athletic director Paul Dee is conducted on location at the
Longhorn Steakhouse, 1630 N.W. 87th Ave. (a.k.a. Galloway) every
