CORAL GABLES, FL – The24th-ranked University of Miami Hurricanes
returned to practice today following an open-date with a two-hour
workout in pads at Greentree Practice Field.
The Hurricanes travel toPhiladelphia for a BIG EAST contest
Saturday vs. Temple at 4:00 at Veteran’s Stadium. Coach ButchDavis is
concerned in stopping the Owls option offense.
“They have a potent attack,”said Davis. “They run the option
very effectively and cause problems defensively with the differentlooks
they present. They have the top rushing offense in the BIG EAST.We do
not face many option teams, so defensively we are having to learn an
entirely new system.”
Starting strong-side linebackerDan Morgan practiced today with
a soft cast on his hand. Morgan had surgery on his left thumblast
Tuesday to repair a fracture and is expected to start in Saturday’s
game.
“Dan is such a terrificcompetitor that he is not going to let
anything keep him out of the lineup,” said Davis. “There is nopain
involved and he has medically been cleared. The only questionis his
ability to tackle and based on his performance today, that did not
appear to be a problem.”
Morgan leads the Hurricanesin total tackles (109), solo tackles
(57), tackle assists (52), and fumble recoveries (2). The sophomore
sits atop the BIG EAST Conference averaging 15.3 tackles a game.
Saturday’s game will betelevised live in Florida on
