Florida Relays Highlights
Holmes Throws Them All
The Canes left Gainesville with ten top-10 finishes over the two-day meet. Ashley Holmes provided three of those finishes, placing second in the discus, tenth in the hammer throw, and third in the shot put with a new personal-best throw of 14.69 meters (48-02.50).
DMR Races into History Books
The men’s distance medley relay team of Connor Adams, Evan Hadrick, Austin Rector, and Greg Kaczka placed seventh at the Florida Relays, breaking the tape in 10:05.69, smashing the old record of 10:09.64 set on March 16, 1994. Current assistant coach Damon Griffiths was a part of the former record-holding relay team.
Hill Remains on Top
Senior All-American Devon Hill continued his strong outdoor campaign at the Florida Relays as he crossed the finish line in the 110-meter hurdles in 13.58 seconds, just behind his school-record and personal-best time of 13.51 seconds set the week before in Arizona. Hill was the fastest collegian in a field that included national champions and Olympians. He currently is ranked fourth in the nation but has the fastest wind-legal time.
Williams and Stewart make their returns
Senior ACC-Champion Tarika Williams made her return to the track in the 100 meters in Gainesville, finishing fourth among collegians with a time of 11.56 seconds. Williams is currently ranked 25th nationally in the event. Sophomore All-ACC performer Thandi Stewart also returned to her main event, the 400-meter hurdles, and placed fourth among collegians with a time of 58.77. She is currently ranked 16th in the nation.
Arrington Does it Again
Sophomore Lindsi Arrington kept her streak of personal-best performances alive after running the 1500 meters Friday night. Her time of 4:32.05 ranks fifth all-time at Miami, and it marks the seventh consecutive meet that Arrington has run a personal-best.
Olympic Hopefuls
In addition to the Miami men’s and women’s track teams, Coach Amy Deem also coaches a group of former UM athletes with aspirations of making the US Olympic team, including 2011 NCAA 400-meter hurdles champion Ti’erra Brown and 15-time All-American Dominique Darden. Brown took the victory in the 400-meter hurdles at the Florida Relays in a new meet and facility record of 54.88. Her time is also the fastest in the world so far. Darden also competed in the event, finishing third in 57.37. Fellow UM Alumni and World Junior 400-meter hurdles champion Takecia Jameson although not training under Coach Deem, ran the 400-meter hurdles as well and finished 13th in 59.37. The Olympic hopefuls’ next stop is at the Hurricane Alumni Invitational this upcoming weekend.
