CORAL GABLES, Fla. — The University of Miami women’s volleyball team hosted a spring exhibition with UVolleyball alumni on Saturday, playing five sets at the Knight Sports Complex on the University of Miami campus.

The Canes, who won two of the five sets against some of the team’s esteemed alumni, were led by many of the talented underclassmen who dot Nicole Lantagne Welch’s spring roster. Sophomore Lizzie Hale’s passing efforts were a big factor throughout the day, while the Canes were led defensively by Taylor Hollins   and Ryan Shaffer’s 16 kills apiece. Hollins led the team with 14 kills, while Alexis Mourning chipped in 13 of her own.

Facing stiff competition in All-American alumni Lane Carico, Ali Becker and Katie Gallagher (among others), the Canes lost the first set (22-25), won the second (25-19), lost the third (16-25), won the fourth (29-27) and lost the fifth (12-15).

The Hurricanes conclude their spring schedule this coming weekend when they travel to Siesta Key for “Fiesta on Siesta”, a 20-team annual tournament featuring many of the premier teams in college volleyball.
