CORAL GABLES, Fla.–The Miami men’s and women’s track and field teams are headed to Tucson, Arizona this weekend, March 29-31, to compete in the Jim Click Shootout hosted by the University of Arizona. This inter-conference challenge features two schools from the ACC, the Big Ten and the Pac-12. Joining the Canes representing the ACC will be Clemson, Penn State and Ohio State from the Big Ten and Arizona and Cal-Berkeley from the Pac-12.
This meet also marks the outdoor season debut for Indoor All-American Devon Hill and Indoor National qualifier Tarika Williams. Hill will compete in the 110-meter hurdles as well as the 4×100 and 4×400-meter relays, while Williams will just compete in both relays.
All-ACC performers Innocent Jacob and Miranda Wilson will look to continue their success into the outdoor season as Jacob is entered in the long and high jumps and Wilson will compete in the discus and hammer throws. Wilson will be joined by fellow senior Ashley Holmes in both throws, and Holmes will also participate in the shot put.
Transfer Junior Samantha Williams will compete in both the long and triple jumps. In the long jump she will be joined by Nicole Cummings, who won the long jump at the prestigious Tyson Invitational during the indoor season.
Sophomore Thandi Stewart will once again line up for the 800 meters after winning the event at the Hurricane Invitational two weeks ago. Joining her will be senior Jennifer Estime and sophomore Lindsi Arrington. Arrington was the 5,000-meter champion at the Hurricane Invitational, and will double up in the 1,500 meters.
Sophomore Connor Adams will look to best his school-record setting performance in the 1,500 meters at the Hurricane Invitational when he lines up in the same event in Tucson. Also representing Miami in the 1,500 will be fellow sophomore Luke Fontaine and junior Greg Kaczka. Adams and Kaczka will also race at 800 meters with senior Austin Rector and Fontaine will join sophomore JaCee Jarnagin in the 3,000 meters.
Freshman hurdlers Christian Cook and Darrell Butler will look to impress in the 110-meter and 400-meter hurdles, respectively before teaming up with Hill and Bassim El-Sabawi in the 4×400-meter relay. Cook, Hill and El-Sabawi will also join senior Jason Johnson as they compete in the 4×100-meter relay for the first time this season. El-Sabawi and Johnson’s busy day continues, however, as both will also compete in the 200 meters and Johnson returns for the long jump. The women will also contest both relays, the 4×100-meter relay being run by the team of Cummings, Jokira Jiles, Jasmyne King and Williams. The 4×400-meter relay will be chosen from a pool of runners.
