Gabriela Mejia named ACC Women's Tennis Player of the Week

CORAL GABLES, Fla.- University of Miami senior women’s tennis player Gabriela Mejia has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Week.  This is the first time the senior has received the award, and it is the third consecutive week a UM player has been named.

The 32nd-ranked senior dominated in both singles and doubles this week.  Mejia went 2-0 in singles play, toppling No. 13 Diana Nakic of Baylor in straight sets (6-2, 6-3) and taking down Yale’s Hannah Yu 6-1, 6-2. 

In doubles, Mejia teamed up with Lina Lilekite to beat Baylor’s Diana Nakic and Sona Novakova 8-4, and then upset Yale’s 37th-ranked Epstein/Sullivan, 8-3. 

These victories place her singles record at 8-1, in addition to Mejia and Lilekite maintaining their undefeated doubles status with a record of 11-0. 

Miami’s pair of 6-1 triumphs against Baylor and Yale, improves their record to 10-1 on the season.
