CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s volleyball team opened their spring season with an exhibition win over visiting Miami-Dade College at the James L. Knight Complex.

The Hurricanes, coming off yet another impressive run through the postseason in 2011, took all five sets of the match by scores of 25-15, 25-15, 25-15, 25-17, and 15-12.

Rising junior Taylor Hollins and transfer newcomer Savannah Leaf, who both figure to play key roles for the Hurricanes in replacing some of the team’s decorated seniors, tied for the team-lead in kills with 16 each.  Nrithya Sundararaman led the team with three aces on the day, while Emani Sims and Alexis Mourning each recorded 3.5 blocks.

The Hurricanes will travel to Orlando for a spring tournament on the campus of Central Florida beginning March 24 before returning home for an April 7 match at the James L. Knight Complex.
