Canes Return Home to Face NC State
Sept. 28, 2011
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s soccer team will play its first game at Cobb Stadium since a Sept. 15 win over Clemson when it faces NC State Thursday night at 7 p.m.
Miami (7-3, 1-2 ACC) had won a program-record tying seven straight contests before falling to No. 4 Duke and No. 7 Wake Forest in its last two road matches.
Now the Canes will look to return to winning ways when they welcome NC State, the owners of an 8-3-1 record on the year. However, the Wolfpack remain winless (0-2-1) inside conference play after falling to fifth-ranked North Carolina and Wake Forest, and most recently battling No. 9 Maryland to a scoreless double-overtime tie.
The Hurricanes are led on offense by forwards Kate Howarth and Tara Schwitter. Howarth leads the team with seven goals and 17 points, while Schwitter has scored four goals of her own. Miami has also seen Shannon Caspar, Fatima Nasser and Ashley Flinn score two goals apiece. Caspar also leads the squad with four assists on the season.
The Wolfpack’s Stephanie Bronson leads her team with six goals, while Shelli Spamer has recorded a team-leading four assists.
Following Thursday evening’s match, Miami will remain at home and face 11th-ranked North Carolina this Sunday at 1 p.m., while NC State remains on the road in Tallahassee, Fla. to face No. 9 Florida State on Sunday as well.
The University of Miami is also excited to offer a new season ticket package that will include two (2) adult and (3) youth tickets to all home volleyball and soccer events in the 2011 season. The Family plan provides a family of five with over 20 events for the incredible price of $50. To purchase a Volleyball and Soccer Family Plan call 1-800-Go Canes or buy online.
