Sept. 16, 2011
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – After a hard fought 3-2 double-overtime victory over Clemson on Thursday, the University of Miami women’s soccer team will face a quick turnaround when it travels to Annapolis, Md. to take on Navy Saturday at 12 p.m.
With the win over Clemson, the Canes (6-1) pushed their win streak to six games.
Miami `s Kate Howarth has been on fire to start the 2011 season. She has tallied seven goals in as many games and has racked up three multi-goal games on the year. The junior will look to continue her hot start against the Midshipmen.
Another big factor for UM’s win streak has been the play of the freshman. The stand-outs include Shannon Casper, Ashley Flinn and Maddie Simms. Casper has played in every game this season, tallying two goals and three assists. In the Clemson win Simms put in her first career point with an assist and Flinn scored her first career goal to win the match.
Navy is 5-2-1 this season and is on a four game win streak. In its last match, Navy defeated Davidson, 1-0, in overtime. Sophomore Paloma Perez leads Navy in points (7) and goals (3) this season.
After Saturday’s match, the Hurricanes will travel to Durham, N.C. to face off against their second ACC opponent of the season in the Duke Blue Devils on Sept. 22. UM will then head to Wake Forest on Sept. 25.
