Miami Too Much For Utah Valley in Road Victory
Aug. 28, 2011
OREM, Utah – The University of Miami women’s soccer team made it a perfect road trip, scoring a season-high four goals – two from freshman Shannon Caspar – in a 4-1 win at Utah Valley Sunday at Clyde Field. After a big win over BYU Friday evening, the Canes (3-1) wasted no time in getting on the board against the Wolverines (1-3). On a pass from Blake Stockton, junior Kate Howarth scored her team-leading third goal of the season just 52 seconds into the game. Then 10 minutes later, Caspar scored her first collegiate goal in what would also prove to be her first game-winner. The Jupiter, Fla. native would then add her second goal of the match in the 83rd minute. Howarth, Kim Hutchinson and Ali Brennan all picked up assists on the goals. Junior Fatima Nasser picked up her second unassisted goal of the season soon after the half in the 49th minute. “Fatima and Shannon played very well and we are happy we are finding ways to win games,” said UM head coach Tom Anagnost. Utah Valley avoided the shutout in the 78th minute when Shalayne Janis took a pass from Nataile Young and found the back of the net. “Obviously we are happy with the win,” said Anagnost . “But, as a coach, I hope none of us are happy with how we played. We lost our discipline, movement without the ball and our decision-making was lackluster. “We made the game much more difficult than it needed to be,” Anagnost added. “We will get better at these things this week.” UM will have a week off before it returns to Cobb Stadium on Sept. 4 when it faces Duquesne at 1 p.m. The Hurricanes new season ticket package that will include two (2) adult and (3) youth tickets to all home volleyball and soccer events during the 2011 season is still being offered. The Family Plan provides a family of five with more than 20 events for the incredible price of $50. Purchase a Volleyball and Soccer Family Plan by calling 1-800-Go Canes or buy online. |
