CORAL GABLES, Fla. — Kicker/punter Matt Bosher became the eighth Cane taken in the 2011 NFL Draft when he was selected with the 27th pick of the sixth round (192nd overall) by the Atlanta Falcons.

Miami continues to be among the best represented schools in this year’s draft. After the first three rounds , UM was tied with LSU for the most players having been picked. The trend is continuing Saturday.

The eight Canes drafted are the most for UM since nine Canes were taken in the 2009 draft.

Bosher played in 50 games in his career – the third-highest total in program history. He holds school records for most consecutive field goals made (14 – 2009-10), while he ranks second in program history in consecutive point after touchdowns made (105). He earned All-ACC three times, including in 2010 when he averaged 44 yards per punt while landing 19 inside the opponent’s 20-yard line.

He successfully made 84.9 percent of his career field goal attempts (45-of-53) while he averaged 41.7 yards per punt over his career.

Bosher is the seventh Cane drafted by Atlanta all-time. He joins former teammate Spencer Adkins (176th pick of the 2009 draft) on the Falcons’ current roster.

He is the second kicker/punter selected in this year’s draft as Nebraska’s Alex Henery went to Philadelphia in the fourth round.
