Kelsi Hall Shines on First Day of U.S. Nationals
Dec. 1, 2011
Atlanta, Ga. – University of Miami swimmer Kelsi Hall highlighted the action for the Hurricanes on the opening day of the 2011 AT&T Winter National Championships on Thursday evening inside the Georgia Tech Aquatics Center. The event is being host by Georgia Tech.
The meet is a long course competition, to allow participants an opportunity to achieve Olympic Trials qualifying standards.
Hall, a senior from Yorktown, Ind., qualified for the finals of the 50 freestyle earlier Thursday afternoon before returning for the finals later in the evening. She blazed her way to a fourth place finish in the “B” final, turning in a personal-best time of 25.69 in the process.
UMiami head swimming coach Christie Shefchunas was ecstatic about the results following the race.
“I am so proud of Kelsi,” said Shefchunas. “Every time she swims the 50 long course, she gets faster and keeps moving up in the rankings in the United States. That puts her in a great position for the Olympic trials this upcoming summer.”
The Hurricanes will continue action tomorrow as the second day includes races of the 400 IM, 100 fly, 200 free, 100 breast and 100 back.
“The girls are in great spirits and ready for a great second day tomorrow,” expressed Shefchunas.
Action begins each day at 9 a.m. with preliminary action, and the finals session starts each night at 6 p.m.
