TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s soccer team fell to No. 15 Florida State, 4-2, Sunday afternoon at the Seminole Soccer Complex, as FSU scored three late goals in the come-from-behind win.

Miami (9-6-1, 3-5-1 ACC) held a 2-1 second half lead, but Florida State scored three times in a 15-minute span, with Ines Jaurena scoring the game-winner in the 76th minute.

“Credit goes to FSU on the victory today,” said Miami head coach Tom Anagnost. “They are a talented team with good players, who made a couple more plays than we did.”

Kate Howarth scored the then game-tying goal in the 60th minute on a penalty kick. It was the 10th of the season for the junior forward. Less than three minutes later, freshman Ashley Flinn scored the Canes’ second goal after her shot deflected of the keeper into the back of the net.

The host Seminoles (11-6-0, 4-5-0) tied the game at two in the 73rd minute when Tori Huster connected from 15-yards out.

Florida State put the match away when McCarty scored her team-leading 13th goal of the season in the 87 minute.

“Their last goal came when we were pressing, trying to get the equalizer,” said Anagnost. “Unfortunately, we hit the crossbar and then didn’t get a shot off on the break-away.”

Vikki Alonzo made six saves in the game for the Canes, while Howarth had a team-leading five shots.

“In the first half, I thought we had more of the ball and it was dissapointing to be down a goal, after we had one cleared off the line and another off the post,” said Anagnost.

Miami will end their regular season on Thursday, Oct. 27 at 7 p.m. against No. 6 Virginia in Charlottesville, Va.

“We can learn a lot from this game today,” concluded Anagnost. “It is of the utmost importance that we commit ourselves to becoming a more disciplined, mature and smarter team – all of which we are in control of.”
