CORAL GABLES, Fla. – After a second half that saw a combined four goals, the University of Miami women’s soccer team upended the ninth-ranked Boston College Eagles, 3-2, on Senior Night, Thursday at Cobb Stadium.

Her first goal of the season couldn’t have come at a better time. Junior midfielder Jordan Roseboro collected a Kate Howarth pass and found the back of the net from six yards out, giving the Canes (8-5-1, 2-4-1) their game-winner in the 75th minute.

The evening’s work wasn’t quite over however, as Boston College (9-2-2, 4-2-0) scored just two minutes later off the foot of Victoria Dimartinio. It was the final goal of a back-and-forth second period.

The Eagles first score of the game came on the heels of another Miami goal. Just 12 minutes after Fatima Nasser scored on pass from Howarth, BC’s Bouchelle headed in a cross from Gibby Wagner in the 73rd minute.

“A two goal lead is a very dangerous lead,” said Miami head coach Tom Anagnost. “They came back each time and then we answered again. To be honest with you, it was a very intense, exciting game and I’m very pleased with the result and how hard the kids played.”

Miami’s senior keeper Vikki Alonzo saved four shots on night, helping the Canes defeat Boston College for the first time since the 2007 season. Howarth led all players with two shots on goal and five shots overall. The Grand Blanc, Mich. native recorded two assists on the night, giving her a team-leading six on the season, in addition to her team-best seven goals on the season.

The Hurricanes weren’t intimidated by the Eagles’ high national ranking, needing only six minutes to get on the board.

After freshman Ashley Flinn battled for a corner kick, Tara Schwitter placed a perfect cross into the box that was headed in by fellow sophomore Blake Stockton. The goal was the first of the season for the Linwood, N.J. native.

Ashlee Burt, Brooke Van Aman and Alonzo were honored in a pre-game ceremony recognizing their contributions to the Hurricane program over the past four seasons.

Miami will return to the pitch on Sunday at 1 p.m. when it will face Maryland in its final home match of the season.
