Miami set to face No. 9 Boston College on Senior Night

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s soccer team opens a two game home stand against No. 9 Boston College Thursday at Cobb Stadium. First-touch is set for 7 p.m.

After a heart breaking last minute loss to Virginia Tech the Canes (7-5-1, 1-4- 1 ACC) will try to get back on track against a strong Boston College team.

The team’s three seniors will be the focal point of this match. Ashlee Burt, Brooke Van Aman and Vikki Alonzo will be honored before the match for the four years of hard work and effort they have given to the program.

Alonzo will be ending a magnificent career at the U this year. She holds four single season records and is Miami’s all-time leader in shutouts with 25.

The Hurricanes’ Kate Howarth, Tara Schwitter and Shannon Caspar have been a triple-threat on offense. Howarth leads all players with seven goals in her junior campaign while Schwitter and Caspar have scored five and four goals respectively.

The Eagles (9-1-2, 4-1-0 ACC) feature eight players that have scored two or more goals on the season, led by Kristen Mewis who has six on the year. She also has five assists for a team leading 17 points. Jillian Mastroianni has been terrific in goal for the BC, sporting a 0.31 goals against average and recording eight shutouts.

After Thursday’s match, Miami will play only once more at home, facing Maryland on Sunday at 1 p.m.
