Canes Ranked 58th in Latest Rankings

Coral Gables, Fla.- The University of Miami Women’s Golf Team continues to make outstanding progress since Coach Rizzo has been at the helm. The team was ranked 58th in the newest polls: 98 spots better than when Coach Rizzo first took over.

“I am very happy about the rankings,” said UM head women’s golf coach Patti Rizzo. “John and I worked very hard this past year recruiting and putting Miami back on the map. All the top schools know we will do a good job and they have let us play in better events because of that. Playing better events with stronger fields has also helped and all the hard work is starting to pay off. As long as we get support and people have confidence in us we will hopefully move up even more by the end of the year.”

Rizzo believes that the main reason that the team has been able to make such big process in such little time is because of the players they have been able to recruit The team has played three tournaments this year: The Cougar Classic, The Mary Fossum Invitational, and The Bettie Lou Evans Fall Invitational.

The Canes who are led by freshman Rika Park and Leticia Ras-Anderica have finished in the top 10 twice this year, including a fifth place finish at The Mary Fossum Invitational.

Ras-Anderica has earned the best finish on the team as an individual this season finishing third at The Bettie Lou Evans Fall Invitational. The team’s best round of the season so far came in the final round of The Cougar Classic, posting a 292.

The Canes will compete in their final tournament of the fall season, starting on October 24 in the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown.
