Miami Divers Shine on Opening Day of All Florida Invite

Gainesville, Fla. – The University of Miami divers headlined the action for the Hurricanes swimming and diving team Friday on the opening day of the All Florida Invite inside the Stephen C. O’Connell Natatorium. The event is being host by the University of Florida.

Hurricanes sophomore female diver Thea Vock posted a score of 301.70 in the 1-meter springboard to take the top podium finish in the event. In fact, the Canes swept the event as freshman Kara McCormack placed second with a score of 295.10 and sophomore Lindsay Lester was third at 283.65.

In the men’s 3-meter springboard, sophomore Sam Dorman came from behind to take the gold after collecting a final score of 358.10.

Meanwhile, over in the swimming lanes, UM got off to a fast start with the team of Celeste Degan, Hannah Kling, Sofia Johansson and Kelsi Hall turning in a time of 1:35.33 in the 200-yard freestyle relay, earning them a fourth place decision.

Senior Kelsi Hall picked up a second place finish in the 50-yard freestyle relay. The Yorktown, Ind. native touched the wall at 23.30. Junior transfer Celeste Degan was first in the B final of the event after she recorded a time of 24.29. Kayla Smith also competed for UMiami with a time of 24.97.

Freshman Lucy Worrall collected a second place finish in the B finals of the 500-yard free relay, as she touched the pad in a time of 5:00.08. Kling posted a mark of 2:09.29 in the 200-yard individual medley, while teammate Christine Anderson was just behind her in a time of 2:09.79.

The final event of the day was the 400-yard medley relay. The Canes fielded the squad of Kling, Johansson, Worrall and Hall to pick up a time of 3:49.39 and a fifth place finish.

The University of Miami sits in fourth place after the first day as the Hurricanes have a team score of 183. They trail Florida Gulf Coast by just 17 points as they enter the second day of action Saturday. The host Florida Gators are in first with 317 points, followed by Florida State with 273.
