`Canes Climb to No. 22 in ESPN/Coaches Poll

Jan. 18, 2011

Coral Gables, Fla. – The University of Miami continues to climb in the polls and on Tuesday, the Hurricanes moved up three spots to No. 22 in the ESPN/Coaches Top 25.

On Monday, the `Canes rose five spots in the AP poll from No. 22 to No. 17.

The `Canes are 4-0 in Atlantic Coast Conference play for the first time since joining the league in 2004. Miami’s two wins at the BankUnited Center over Clemson and Boston College last week continued a pair of win streaks as UM has now won 19 straight games at home and 17 consecutive overall – tied with No. 3 Duke for the longest current streak in the nation.

Last week’s No. 25 ranking was the first time UM had been included in the coaches poll since March 15, 2004.

In wins over Clemson and Boston College, junior guard Riquna Williams scored 29 and 33 points respectively and hit six three-pointers in each contest on her way to her third ACC Player of the Week honor this season. It was the first time this year that the panel of national and institutional voters had selected on a player unanimously for the award.

Miami is off this week, but will travel to Tallahassee, Fla. to face No. 16 Florida State on Monday, Jan. 24 at 7 p.m. The game will be televised on Fox Sports Florida and Fox Sports South.
