Sept. 25, 2011

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami men’s tennis team withdrew from the Florida State Championships after only two matches on another rainy day in Tampa.

After being rained out on Saturday, freshman Victor Mauz earned his first win as a Hurricane in the singles consolation round. He defeated Lance Lvousky from Florida Gulf Coast 6-2, 7-5.

Diego Soto lost in the quarterfinals of singles play to USF’s Wael Kilani in a tie-breaker, 6-4, 3-6 (6-10). Today’s loss was Soto’s only on the weekend.

All other matches scheduled for today were postponed until Monday morning because of rain throughout the day.

Miami chose to withdraw so that the team’s players would not miss class on Monday.

The Hurricanes will play next at the Southeast Regional Championships from Oct. 21 through Oct. 24 at the University of Georgia.
