Spence Named Honorable Mention LB of the Week
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – University of Miami senior linebacker Sean Spence has been named a College Football Performance Awards Honorable Mention Linebacker of the Week after his performance against Kansas State on Saturday.
Spence tied a career-high with 14 total tackles (eight solo, six assists) in UM’s loss to the Wildcats. The Miami native was the best defender on the field in the Canes’ second home game, as he added one sack, 2.5 tackles for loss and a forced fumble to his game-high tackles total.
Spence, who is the ACC’s second-leading returning tackler coming into the 2011 season, recorded five of his 14 tackles in the opening quarter against KSU.
His first 14-tackle performance of his career came in a win at Clemson last season.
Miami will wrap up its three-game homestand when it hosts Bethune-Cookman on Saturday, Oct. 1 at 3:30 p.m. at Sun Life Stadium. For the second straight week, UM play on ESPNU.
