Canes Advance to Pepperdine Asics Classic Title Match

MALIBU, Calif. – Senior outside hitter Christine Williamson recorded 10 kills on 13 swings while hitting .692 (10-1-13) as the undefeated University of Miami Hurricanes swept the Georgia Bulldogs, 3-0 (25-19, 25-13, 27-25) in the Pepperdine Asics Classic. The event is being housed at Firestone Fieldhouse on the campus of Pepperdine University. Miami (5-0) hit above .250 as a team for the fourth time this year, using a career-high attack percentage from Williamson as the Hurricanes advanced to their 11th consecutive regular season tournament title match later Saturday night. Leading by two sets late in the third frame, Miami trailed the Bulldogs by a score of 25-24 following blocks from Georgia’s Kathleen Gates and Ann Dylla. UM bounced back behind kills from Alex Johnson and Ali Becker, ending with a UGA attack error to claim the set and match. The Bulldogs were led by Kathleen Luft with a match-high 15 kills and 12 digs. Tirah Le’au also touched double-digits for digs (13). Williamson was one of two Canes to reach double-figures for kills. Senior All-America outside hitter Lane Carico amassed 10 kills and reeled in a team-high 15 digs for her second double-double of the year. Sophomore libero Ryan Shaffer tallied 15 digs and redshirt freshman middle blocker Emani Sims led the Canes with four blocks. With the win, Miami improves to 4-2 all-time against Georgia (2-3). Miami concludes its participation in the Pepperdine Asics Classic against host Pepperdine tonight at 10:30 p.m. Eastern.
