CORAL GABLES, Fla. – University of Miami offensive lineman Tyler Horn has been named to the 2011 preseason watch list for the Rimington Trophy, which annually names the most outstanding center in NCAA Division I-A football.

The center enters his senior season after finishing 2010 with 39 pancake blocks and seven lumberjacks, both third-best on the team. He started all 13 games last season and was named Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Offensive Lineman of the Week following the Hurricanes’ win over North Carolina on Oct. 23.

Horn was one of just four ACC players selected for the 43-man list.

The last Cane to receive the Rimington Trophy was Brett Romberg in 2002. Romberg helped the Hurricanes to a 34-game winning streak, a National Championship (2001) and three BIG EAST Conference championships (2001, 2002 and 2003) during his collegiate career. He never allowed a quarterback sack at center and blocked for three 1,000-rushers in James Jackson, Clinton Portis and Willis McGahee.

The Rimington Trophy committee uses four prestigious teams to determine a winner. The American Football Coaches Association (AFCA), Walter Camp Foundation (WCF), Sporting News (SN) and Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) all vote on the award’s recipient.

The trophy is named after Dave Rimington, who played center for the University of Nebraska from 1979-1982 and whom many consider to be the greatest collegiate center of all time. The first Rimington Trophy was awarded in 2000.

The annual Rimington Trophy Presentation will take place on January 14, 2012 at 7:30 p.m. in Rococo Theatre in Lincoln, Neb.
