DES MOINES, Iowa – University of Miami senior Ti’erra Brown is a 2011 NCAA national champion after her outstanding performance in the 400m hurdles Friday night at Drake Stadium.

The Hampton, Va. native circled the track in 55.642 seconds, just 0.004 seconds ahead of UCLA’s Turquoise Thompson. The win is the first national championship for the now six-time All-America performer. She became the sixth woman in program history to win an NCAA Outdoor National Title.

In 2010, Brown won the U.S. championship in the 400m hurdles and was the runner-up in the NCAA National Championships.

“I’m very proud of Ti’erra’s performance tonight,” said Director of Track and Field Amy Deem. “She has worked very hard for this moment.

“Now it’s time to re-focus for tomorrow’s 100m hurdle final.”

On Friday, Brown advanced to the 100m hurdle final for the second straight year as she finished the first of three semifinal heats in third place at 13.08 seconds out of lane two. She will compete in the championship race at 2:09 p.m. EST.

CBS will provide television coverage on Saturday from 1-3 p.m. (EST), with Ian Eagle calling the action, along with analysis and interviews from Larry Rawson, Carol Lewis and Dan O’Brien.

Coverage on Friday, June 10, will be provided from 7:30-9:30 p.m. on CBS Sports Network.
