DES MOINES, Iowa – The University of Miami’s Ti’erra Brown raced to the nation’s fastest time of the season in advancing to the 400m hurdles final at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Wednesday night at Drake Stadium.

Competing in the first of three semifinal heats, Brown circled the track in her season-best time of 55.59 seconds, advancing into Friday’s final.

“Ti’erra ran a smart and strong race tonight,” said Director of Track and Field Amy Deem. “It’s the best finish she has had this season. This race gives her a lot of confidence going into the final.”

The five time All-America performer – competing in her final collegiate meet – will be advancing to her fourth straight national championship race in the 400m hurdles. Last year, the Hampton, Va. native was the national runner-up.

Also competing in her last collegiate meet is Takecia Jameson. The Upper Marlboro, Md. native came just 0.29 seconds shy of joining Brown in the 400m hurdles championship race, finishing with a time of 56.75 seconds – her second-best effort of the season.

“Takecia ran close to her best race of the season, but unfortunately it didn’t get her back into the final,” added Deem. “She is a tough competitor and she will bounce back.”

Both Brown and Jameson will be back in action tomorrow in the 100m hurdle semifinals at 7:50 p.m. EST. Brown advanced to Des Moines with her 13.05-second quarterfinal time, while Jameson recorded her personal-best time of 13.28 seconds.

Immediately following the women’s race on Thursday will be the men’s high hurdles (8:10 p.m. EST), featuring Devon Hill – the ACC Champion in the event. In his last race in the NCAA quarterfinals, Hill easily broke the school record and ran the meet’s fastest 110m hurdle time in 13.54 seconds.

All the hurdle semifinals will feature three heats with the top two student-athletes from each heat – plus the next two fastest times – advancing to the national championship race.
