CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s soccer team reached new heights in the classroom during the 2011 spring semester by earning the program’s highest grade point average since 2000.

Seventeen members of the team earned a GPA over 3.0, pushing the team’s overall GPA to 3.339 for the latest semester.

Three women earned a perfect 4.0 in the spring. Seniors Brittney Steinbruch and Barbara Blocker ended their collegiate careers with the perfect academic scores, they were joined by junior Nichole Chandler.

Steinbruch, the Hurricanes all-time leading goal scorer (36 goals), recently was named to the All-ACC Academic Team for the fourth time in her career. Steinbruch and Blocker each graduated last week with degrees in Sport Administration.

Chandler will enter her senior year in the fall of 2011 and is currently pursuing a degree in Physical Therapy.

The Hurricanes will begin play in their 14th season in August, led by senior goalkeeper Vikki Alonzo – the school’s all-time leader in shutouts (24) and junior forward Jordan Roseboro.
