PHILADELPHIA – The University of Miami men’s track team posted a solid time in the 4×100 relay Friday at the University of Pennsylvania’s Franklin Field, earning an alternate spot in Saturday’s consolation final.

The men’s 4×100 relay team competed in a race for just the second time this season – the first coming in its fourth-place performance at last week’s ACC Championships (41.24). On Friday, the team of Lamar Miller, Devon Hill, Bassim El-Sabawi and Brandon McGee nearly posted an identical time at 41.27 seconds, placing 19th out of 82 competing schools.

The effort earned them the first alternate spot in the College Men’s 4×100 College consolation final  that is scheduled to be run Saturday at 1:20 p.m. If one of the eight competing schools in the final is  unable to race, the Miami men will fill in their spot.

Just six days after winning an ACC Championship in the 110m hurdles, Devon Hill was back at it again on Saturday. In a field of 30 of the nation’s top hudlers, Hill crossed the finish line in 14.45 seconds, good for 15th place.

The Penn Relays is the nation’s oldest and most prestigious track and field relay event.  Beginning in 1922 with the renovation of Franklin Field, the Penn Relays has hosted high schools and college track and field programs as well as amateur and professional athletes.  This year, there are over 1,200 schools that will be competing in front of a three-day audience that is expected to be over 100,000 strong.
