DURHAM, N.C. – The University of Miami Track and Field team earned a pair of individual titles at the third and final day of the ACC Track and Field Championships at Duke’s Wallace Wade Stadium on Saturday.

Coming into Satuday with five All-America honors and a U.S. National Championship, Ti’erra Brown had never won an ACC individual title. However, the senior changed that, winning  the 100m hurdles in a time of 12.94 seconds.

“Ti’erra overcame a slow start, but was able to finish strong in beating NCAA Indoor champion Brianna Rollins (Clemson),” said Director of Track and Field Amy Deem.

Fellow senior Takecia Jameson finished the event in sixth-place with a season-best time of 13.42 seconds.

Devon Hill claimed an ACC Championship in February in the indoor 60m hurdles and on Saturday he came just .01 seconds shy of tying Cory Nelms’ school record in the 110m hurdles, when he again won a conference title in 13.66 seconds.

“Devon’s personal-best was a strong performance in a very competive hurdle field, said Deem”

The Trenton, N.J. native followed up his championship effort with a fourth-place finish in the 400m hurdles, as he circled the track in 52.45 seconds – a new personal-best time for the junior.

Brown, freshman Thandi Stewart and Jameson finished the 400m hurdles in second, third and fourth place respectively, with times of 57.58, 57.71 and 58.18 seconds. The times for Stewart and Jameson were season-bests for each.

“The hurdlers excelled this weekend for our teams,” added Deem. “Sweeping the 100 and 110m hurle titles highlighted today’s competition.”

For the first time in her career, senior Megan Novinger earned All-ACC honors as she placed third in the high jump with a mark of 1.68m (5-06.00). The Miami native reached the mark on her first attempt and shared the third-best height with North Carolina’s Ariel Roberts.

The men’s 4×100 relay team put the Canes on the board with a fourth place finish. The five points came after Brandon McGee, Lamar Miller, Devon Hill and Bassim El-Sabawi won their heat in 41.24 seconds. It was the first time during the outdoor season that the relay team competed in a meet.

The women’s 4×400 relay team of Stewart, Jameson, Charlene Fuller and Jennifer Estime ended the competition for the women with a fourth-place finish of their own, crossing the finish line in 3:42.30.

David Kurht, Patrick Blackie, Garrett Nygren and Evan Hadrick earned a point for the men in its 4×400 relay by placing eighth with a season-best time of 3:18.23.

In all, the women finished the championships with 57 points for sixth place, while the men closed out the three-day meet with 21 points for ninth. Florida State and Clemson won the team titles for the men and women respectively.

“I was very pleased with our freshmen this weekend,” concluded Deem. “Kyla’s [Buckley] shot put, Nicole’s [Cummings] long jump and Thandi’s [Stewart] 400m hurdle performaces are a solid foundation for the program in the future.”

The Hurricanes will next compete in the prestigious Penn Relays April 28-30 at the University of Pennsylvania’s historic Franklin Field.
