Miami Women's Tennis Moves Up to No. 5 in National Rankings

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s tennis team moved up one spot to No. 5 in the latest Campbell/ITA National Team Rankings released Tuesday.

Miami (13-4) improved to 5-1 in Atlantic Coast Conference play over the weekend with a pair of road victories over No.17 Virginia and Virginia Tech. The win over the Cavaliers was the Hurricanes’ sixth against a Top 25 opponent this season.

The ITA also released updated singles and doubles rankings on Tuesday. Senior Bianca Eichkorn, who is 15-2 in dual match play at Miami’s No. 1 singles spot, came in at No. 8, while Anna Barternstein and Kayla Rizzolo are ranked 48th and 109th respectively.

In doubles, Eichkorn and Bartenstein moved up two spots to No. 11 – the highest ranking the pair has ever held. The tandem is 22-4 overall and 15-2 in dual match play at No. 1 doubles.

As a team, Miami is joined in the Top 5 by No. 1 Stanford, No. 2 Florida, No. 3 North Carolina and No. 4 Duke. UCLA, Georgia, Michigan, Baylor and California round out the Top 10.

USC’s Maria Sanchez continues to lead in the national singles rankings, while Clemson’s tandem of Keri Wong and Josipa Bek are the top-ranked doubles team. On March 6, Eichkorn and Bartenstein defeated Wong and Bek, 8-3, in Clemson.

The Hurricanes will return to the courts this weekend when they host Wake Forest on Friday and NC State on Sunday. Friday’s match at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center will begin at 3 p.m. and is free to the public and students.
