Miami Trio Score in Pentathlon in First Day of ACC Championships

BLACKSBURG, Va. – Rachel Dupree led a trio of `Canes that scored in the pentathlon in the first day of the ACC Indoor Track and Field Championships at Virginia Tech’s Rector Field House on Thursday.
Dupree scored 3,509 total points in the 60m hurdles, high jump, shot put, long jump and 800m run, while Nicole Cummings and Britney Clarke scored 3,472 and 3,430 points respectively.
Cummings recorded the best mark in the shot put at 12.30m (40-04.25) on her way to a career-best performance.
Jumpers Cummings and Elyse Houston along with throwers Miranda Wilson, Kyla Buckley and Ashley Holmes will open Friday’s action for the Hurricanes in the long jump and weight throw respectively at 1 p.m.
Junior Tarika Williams leads the Hurricanes’ sprinters in the 60 and 200m dashes with the preliminary heats beginning at 4:20 and 5:30 p.m. Earlier this season, Williams moved into fifth place in school history with a 7.38 second performance in the 60m dash in Lexington, Ky.
Five-time All-America selection Ti’erra Brown is scheduled to compete in the 400m dash on Friday and as a member of `Canes 4×400 relay on Saturday.
An All-America honoree herself, Takecia Jameson will race in the 60m hurdles along with Cummings and Clarke.
The men will be led by Devon Hill who will look to defend his ACC crown in the 60m hurdles.
The sprinters, including school record holder Travis Benjamin, Lamar Miller and Brandon McGee will look to get their team on the board this weekend.
Another record holder, Greg Kaczka will compete in both the mile and the 3,000m runs.
