Miami Heads to South Carolina to Face Clemson

CORAL GABLES – The University of Miami women’s basketball team looks to start an end of season winning streak when it faces the Clemson Tigers at the Littlejohn Coliseum at 7 p.m. Thursday night in Clemson, S.C.

Miami is coming off one of its toughest losses of the season when it fell to NC State, 66-64 on a last-minute put-back. In the game, Shenise Johnson scored a game-high 23 points – her fourth 20-point output in the last six games. Freshman Shanel Williams scored 13 points – tying a season-best and the most in an ACC game this season. The Chesapeake, Va. native also matched a career-best with three three-pointers in the game.
Johnson continues to make her case for All-America honors as she is the only player in the ACC to rank in the top-10 in scoring (third, 18.5 ppg), rebounding (third, 7.8 rpg) and assists (fifth, 4.3 apg). Riquna Williams currently is the second-most prolific scorer in the conference, pouring in 19.3 points per night.
A Look at the Tigers
Clemson heads into Thursday’s ACC matchup having dropped its last four games – to Virginia Georgia Tech, Florida State and Maryland.
The Tigers are led by Lele Hardy who is averaging 13.7 points and 8.1 rebounds per game. Shaniqua Pauldo and Sthefany Thomas score 11.6 and 7.5 points per game respectively. Keyrra Gillespie leads the team with 120 assists on the season.
Clemson is averaging 63.1 points and 40.1 rebounds per game as a team. It is shooting 37.6 percent (636-1693) from the floor, 27.4 percent (115-419) from beyond the arc and 64.6 percent (317-491) from the free throw line. The Tigers also register 10.0 steals and 5.1 blocked shots per outing, while holding their opponents to 69.2 points per game and a shooting percentage of 41.4 (654-1579).
The Series
Thursday night will mark the eighth all-time meeting between the two programs. Currently, Clemson hold a slight 4-3 lead in the series, including a 74-68 victory over Miami in Coral Gables last season. In that game, Riquna Williams scored 23 points in her ACC debut and Shenise Johnson added 16 in the loss.
