Miami's Riquna Williams Named ACC Player of the Week
Dec. 13, 2010
GREENSBORO, N.C. – University of Miami junior guard Riquna Williams earned this week’s Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week honor as announced by the conference office on Monday.
The honor is the third in Williams’ career after winning the award twice as a sophomore. The Pahokee, Fla. native scored a game-high 23 points in a win over No.11 Georgetown, while grabbing six rebounds and swatting away a pair of shots. Williams also scored a game-high 18 points in Miami’s lopsided victory over Alcorn State on Dec. 11.
Williams currently leads the ACC in scoring at 20.5 points per game and ranks sixth in both steals (2.7) and free throw percentage (81.6). In 10 games played, Williams has posted 20-plus scoring performances on five occasions.
The ACC’s weekly accolades are voted on by the league’s “Blue Ribbon Panel,” which consists of national and local media members, as well as school representatives. The panelists will also vote on the league’s postseason All-Conference teams for the 2010-11 season.
The Hurricanes are 9-1 on the season and will close out a nine-game homestand on Saturday when they face UC Riverside at the BankUnited Center at 5 p.m.
