Bailey Makes Lott Trophy Quarterfinal List
Oct. 20, 2010
NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. – The Pacific Club IMPACT* Foundation has announced that Miami defensive lineman Allen Bailey is one of 23 quarter-finalists for the annual Lott IMPACT Trophy.
Bailey is one of the leaders on a stout Miami defense that leads the nation in tackles for loss. Bailey alone has five tackles for loss and two sacks while facing regular double teams and moving between tackle and end. Bailey is ninth on the team with 21 total tackles.
Named after Hall of Famer Ronnie Lott, the Lott is awarded to college football’s Defensive IMPACT Player of the Year. Now in its seventh year, the Lott is the first – and only — college football award to equally recognize athletic performance and the personal character attributes of the player.
Sponsored by The Pacific Club IMPACT* Foundation in Newport Beach, the award is given to the player who exhibits the same characteristics Lott embodied during his distinguished career: Integrity, Maturity, Performance, Academics, Community and Tenacity.
There are 10 defensive linemen on the quarter-finalist list; eight linebackers and five defensive backs. The Big 12 and the Big Ten have five players on the list, the Pac-10 four, the SEC and ACC three each, the WAC two and one independent, Army.
The semi-finalists will be announced Nov. 3 and the four finalists Nov. 24. Those four finalists will be flown to Newport Beach, Ca. for the annual black-tie banquet that will be televised by FOX.
