Meet Women's Soccer Freshman Brianna Smith

Aug. 11, 2010

CORAL GABLES – In the second of a four-part series, freshman Brianna Smith sat down with HurricaneSports.com to tell ‘Canes fans what its like to be a new member of the Miami Hurricane Family.

Why did you choose Miami over the other school’s that recruited you?

I chose Miami over the other schools because of the superior opportunity it presented an opportunity to not only play in the ACC but to get a diploma at a Top-50 school.

What are some of the goals that you have for yourself and as a team this season?

My main personal goal is to have a positive impact on the team and help lead them to a championship.

After being in Miami for a little while now, what do think of the city? Any surprises?

To be honest I haven’t had a chance to see much other than the gym, the field and the dorm rooms. I live in the city back home though so it hasn’t been a huge adjustment… other than the heat.

Of the veteran players on the team, who do you look up to or who has been most helpful to you so far in making the transition to college?

The whole team has been a huge help for the past month, on and off the field. Pushing me through workouts – I thought I could never do and helping me through making a life changing adjustment. They’re always willing to come pick me up or bring me some food to eat when I don’t have a chance to leave campus.

Who was the first teammate you met and what was your first impression of them?

The first teammates I met on my official visit were Kim and Cassidy. They were really friendly and welcoming, they definitely gave me a good first impression.

Is there something interesting about you that not many people in Miami know?

It’s funny because I’m known as the quiet one out of the freshmen class, but at home I’m the loud one out of my group of friends.

Have you seen an celebrities since you have been in Miami?

I could have sworn I saw Jay Z on South Beach but it was never confirmed.

Now that you have been a Miami resident for a few weeks, what advice would you give to LeBron James, Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade?

Drink a lot of water if you want to be able to function.

What is something that you really want to do in Miami but haven’t had the chance to do yet?

I have pretty much had the chance to do everything I wanted to do. Soccer during the week and beach on the weekend.

Do you have any pre-game rituals that you always have to do?

No, I don’t really have any rituals, I try to stay away from that stuff.
