Freshman Blake Stockton Chats With Hurricanesports.com
Aug. 3, 2010
CORAL GABLES – Blake Stockton is the first of four freshmen to take time to sit down with HurricaneSports.com and tell ‘Canes fans what it has been like to be a new face in a new place and what expectations she has for herself and the women’s soccer team this season.
Why did you choose Miami over the other school’s that recruited you?
I chose Miami because it was my dream school. I came here for camp when I was 12 and wanted to be a ‘Cane ever since.
What are some of the goals that you have for yourself and as a team this season?
My personal goal for my next four years in Miami is to win a national championship and make my team and family proud. My goal for this season is to improve my game so I can better the team when it is my time to play. As a team, I know they are all determined to win and together we can be a powerful force if everyone works hard to better each other.
After being in Miami for a little while now, what do think of the city? Any surprises?
I love Miami, the heat is not as bad as many say. I’m enjoying my stay here and can’t wait to see what the future holds for me and the rest of the freshmen.
Of the veteran players on the team, who do you look up to or who has been most helpful to you so far in making the transition to college?
I look up to every single older player. They all have helped me adjust to the change. I couldn’t pick one, because all of them have been a huge influence on me since I have been here.
Who was the first teammate you met and what was your first impression of her?
The first person I met was Ashlee Burt and I love her.
Have you seen any celebrities since you have been in Miami?
Willis McGahee runs with us sometimes.
Now that you have been a Miami resident for a few weeks, what advice would you give to LeBron James, Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade?
I would tell them that I’m the coolest freshman ever to come into Miami and they and the Miami Heat should attend all of our games.
What is something that you really want to do in Miami but haven’t had the chance to do yet?
I would like to visit Star Island.
Do you have any pre-game rituals that you always have to do?
Before the game I like to listen to some music and try not to get anxious.
