Hurricanes Ready For Final Day of Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA The University of Miami track teams with a No. 15 ranking on women’s side positioned themselves for a big third and final day of competition, Friday at the historic Penn Relays.  

 

The men’s 4×400 relay team ran the fastest time in 12 years at the Hurricane Alumni Invite just two weeks ago, Friday at the Penn Relays, Cory Nelms, DeMarcus Van Dyke, Travis Benjamin and Lamr Miller run just shy of that time as they advanced to Saturday’s Championship of America with a time of 40.40 seconds.

 

Kristy Whyte, Tarika Williams, Charlene Fuller and Brittni Finch made up of the 4×200 relay and ran a 1:37.86, advancing to the College Women’s College Final.

 

In the College Women’s Shuttle Hurdle Championship of America, Ti’erra Brown, Takecia Jameson, Tameka Jameson and Deandra Doyley were the second-place time of 53.82 seconds.

 

Brown, also ran in the 100m hurdles and she finished with the second-best time in the third heat, advancing to the Championship final with a time of 13.08 seconds.

 

On Friday, Kristy Whyte, Charlene Fuller, Tarika Williams and Takecia Jameson made up the 4×100 relay team that advanced to the College Women’s 4×100 College Final. The quartet finished 17th out of 94 competing schools, with a time 45.74 seconds.

 

Tameka and Takecia Jameson ran the first and last legs of the 4×400 relay, with Ti’erra Brown and Charlene Fuller the squad finished 12th out of 89 teams at 3:39.29. That time qualified the women for a slot in the College Women’s 4×400 College Final, Saturday at 5:35 p.m.

 

The Penn Relays is the nation’s oldest and most prestigious track and field relay event.  Beginning in 1922 with the renovation of Franklin Field, the Penn Relays has hosted high schools and college track and field programs as well as amateur and professional athletes.  This year there are over 1,200 schools that will be attending in front of a three-day audience that is expected to be over 100,000 strong.
